I Learned How To Make Apple Fritters From YouTube

Glazed Apple Fritters I made myself.

I've made them three times now and I know I will continue to make them from now on. I don't know why I've never seen it being sold in bakeshops in Hong Kong. Since I couldn't find a bakeshop that sold apple fritters in Hong Kong, I decided to try making it myself.

Apple Fritters are deep fried, no baking is needed. There's so many videos in YouTube about how to make apple fritters and I chose one where the sliced(diced) apples was cooked in a pan with butter for a few minutes and cooled down before being mixed with the flour batter.

If you go to YouTube and type "HOMEMADE APPLE FRITTERS: Easy to Make and So Delicious/ Fall Recipe" you'll see a video from the Youtube channel "marcy inspired". It is a good video about how to make apple fritters. The recipe for the batter is good. It wasn't runny. I didn't have to add more flour.

By this time, I had come across another YouTube video that showed a different recipe for the glazing of apple fritters. It was so simple, just powdered sugar and some lemon juice mixed together. This is the glazing I use now.

I can't forget the first time I tasted this glazing - it was delightfully tangy and sweet and it was drizzled all over an apple fritter.

The more I think about it, the more I become convinced that Apple Fritters must have first appeared in the US during a time of depression or war, when money was scarce and food was rationed. With 2 small apples, diced, and some flour, I was able to make 10 pieces of Apple Fritters, each fritter about the size of a toddler's fist. Stretching food further! That's what housewives who had to be frugal would cook up.

But regardless of it's possible origins, freshly cooked Apple Fritters are a delicious snack anytime.

About the recipe, I divided all the ingredients by one half.
